It is the most prominent spiritual attraction in Ujjain and is among the most sacred Lord Shiva temples in the country. It houses one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.

The glory of this Jyotirlinga has been vividly described in various holy books, including the Puranas, and it is believed that the Lingam in Ujjain is 'swayambhu' (self-manifested or naturally occurring). It is also known as Dakshinamurti due to its south-facing feature.

Shri Mahakal Lok Corridor is also a  main attraction at Mahakal Temple in Ujjain. It is more than 900 meters, surrounded by the old Rudrasagar Lake. There are 108 pillars, around 200 statues, and murals that display stories of Shiva can be seen in the Mahakal lok. It looks stunning at night in colorful lights.

Ram Ghat, Ujjain
